What to Wear for Your First Surf Lesson in Hawaii

Are you ready to catch some waves in paradise? Before hitting the water, make sure you have the right attire for your first surfing lesson in Hawaii. Here are some suggestions:

  1. Rash Guard: A tight-fitting, quick-drying shirt that protects your skin from the sun and chafing against the board. Our surf school provides one for every surfer , but you can purchase one at your local surf shop or online ! * long sleeve to protect arms and prevent farmers tan!

  2. Boardshorts or Bikini: Wear a comfortable and snug-fitting swimsuit that allows you to move freely. Men can wear boardshorts, while women can wear a bikini with a rash guard or a one-piece swimsuit.

  3. Wetsuit (optional): Consider wearing a wetsuit if you're taking a lesson in winter or easily get cold. It provides added warmth and protection. The water temperature in Hawaii ranges from 75-80°F (24-27°C) in the summer to 70-75°F (21-24°C) in the winter.

  4. Sunscreen: Apply sunscreen at least 30 minutes before your lesson to protect your skin from the sun. The air temperature in Hawaii ranges from 75-85°F (24-29°C) year-round.

  5. Footwear: Reef walk booties are recommended if you plan to surf in areas with rocky or coral reefs. They protect your feet and provide added traction.

Now that you know what to wear, it's time to hit the waves! Remember to have fun and listen to your instructor. Happy surfing!
